Product information
My drawings are scanned and printed by professionals, using professional high-grade materials. I see to it that every print is exactly the same as my original drawing. The professional print studio prints on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper (Photo Rag 308 grm). It's called a giclee print. This allows to make a reproduction which resembles the original drawing perfectly. All my work (except one) is printed on A3 size because that's what they need. Please note that the actual print might look slightly different from what you see on your screen. Due to your screen settings colours may vary.
Packaging
Fine art prints are delicate. I want you to get them undamaged. I use plastic as little as posibble because I think we have to care for the world. I will only use plastic when I think it is necessary to protect the print. I strive to use durable shipping boxes as much as possible.
I ship worldwide. Please read the detailed shipping information.
To ensure that you will receive a limited, high quality fine art print that is really coming from me, each print will come with a Certificate of Authenticity. On this Certificate the amount of limited prints, a serial number accompanied with a hologram and other relevant information is indicated. The certificate will be printed on Hahnemühle paper and will be signed by me.
My name is Davine den Toom. Born in Dokkum (The Netherlands) in 1976. After being a teacher I started drawing. Initially to heal, to bring peace in my mind. I started drawing animals. My passion for drawing and painting actually comes from a deep love for nature and animals. Especially for animals that are not often really seen for who they really are. Through my portraits I hope to rekindle love and compassion for all animals. A percentage of the sales of most drawings goes to a sanctuary or foundation because I think they need help to exist and spread their beliefs about animals and nature.
At least two times a week I volunteer at an animal sanctuary. I take care of their food, clean the stables and outdoor areas, helping in transporting animals to the sanctuary and organize visitorsdays etc. I love this kind of work. To be outside a lot between the animals in nature creates a calm mind. Here I get the most of my ideas for a drawing.
When I draw there is a strong connection with the portretted animal. First I make a quick sketch to experience the dark and light, the proportions etc. It really is kind of first acquaintance on paper. Than I begin to draw the outlines of the animal. I never trace them. I have to feel the animal, feel the lines. When this process is finished I grap my coloured pencils or fineliners and begin to draw the eye. This is where the soul is and the connection really begins.
I draw with coloured pencils of Faber Castell (Polychromos) and Derwent and pens of Sakura (Micron).
